Russian Oil and Gas Company

The brief

We were asked by a trading subsidiary of a large Russian oil and gas company to develop a suite of courses capable of upskilling their back and middle office functions. The content was to be academically and technically robust with an emphasis on practical and immediately applicable tools and techniques as opposed to theoretical models and concepts. Instructor led delivery was to be interactive, engaging and appropriate for employees working in a fast paced, demanding and entrepreneurial business.

Service provided

We developed a set of deep-dive modules of between one and two days duration:

  • Risk Management & Analysis
  • Derivatives & Options
  • Gas & Power and Trading
  • Crude Oil, Products Trading
  • LNG Trading

All courses make extensive use of simulations on our trading platform in order that delegates can apply theory to practical situations and genuinely feel what it is like to be a trader.

The courses have been delivered in the UK, Russia and Singapore.

Results

A standardised educational programme that ensures a consistent level of relevant knowledge across the client’s worldwide locations.

Indian Oil and Gas Company

The brief

The client wanted to put a large number of candidates through an in-house development programme which would also act as a means of assessing their trading potential. The commodity focus was on Crude Oil & Products.

Service provided

A series of 5 day courses delivered at the client’s premises in India.  The first 3 days of the programme focused on education and light touch assessment, allowing the delegates time to absorb trading concepts and become accustomed to the trading simulator software. The final two days were focused on completing complex simulations and a full assessment of each delegate’s commercial skill capabilities. The assessed simulations were a mix of individual and team-based simulations, allowing assessors the opportunity to observe behaviour within a group environment.

Included within the programme was a PRISM brain mapping questionnaire, which allowed TwoTwoFive staff, as qualified practitioners to determine the natural behavioural preferences of the delegates. This helped to provide feedback on the most appropriate role for each individual.

TwoTwoFive educated the delegates about stress management and recorded their HRV (heart rate variability) data to demonstrate how completing the complex trading simulations had changed their physiological state.

Results

A comprehensive assessment report combining both observed and neurological data designed to provide a unique insight into the delegate’s trading potential, their resilience and ability to thrive in a pressured environment. The combination of the TwoTwoFive commercial skills evaluation and the full PRISM report gave the client the tools to fully evaluate the delegate and determine their future career development.  Better awareness of mental health can improve the overall performance and wellbeing of a delegate regardless of their career path.

European Oil and Gas Producer

The brief

We were asked by a large European oil and natural gas producer to design two courses. The first was to be an education focused course that would provide their back and middle office with an overview of natural gas trading; it was to be 2 days long and suitable for an audience with no previous front line trading experience. The second was to be an assessed course for a pool of delegates with some commercial experience, in order to determine their trading potential.

Service provided

We designed the educational course to incorporate both speculative and asset optimisation trading simulations, in addition to options theory and its relevance to the asset backed world, something the delegates found fascinating. We delivered these courses in mainland Europe, the UK and North America.

The assessed course, was designed to start at lunchtime on day 1 and finish just after lunch on Day 3, to allow for travel. The delegates were given 2 online courses to complete prior to the start of the course, covering 8 modules, to ensure that everyone began the course with the same knowledge base. The course itself then began with some revision of these key concepts before the fully assessed simulations began. A PRISM brain mapping questionnaire was completed by each delegate to determine their behavioural preferences. The course was held at our partner, ICE Education’s training facility in the City of London.

Results

An educational opportunity for back and mid-office teams to upskill the organisation and help individuals understand and experience front office operations.

A comprehensive written assessment report gave the client’s commercial management team the opportunity to see how their staff performed in a real world, pressured but safe environment. It allowed the client to see how their staff compared to the 800+ other individuals from other companies included in the TwoTwoFive Assessed Trader population and was used to improve the development decisions for the participating delegates.
